OK, I can't seem to cough up the hook attached to that bait so here it comes . . . .
In 1999 at the age of 37, I ran 36:41 - that scores 74.4 on the age graded tables.
In 2006 at the age of 44, I ran 39:29 - score 72.7. Not bad considering a reduction in mileage from around 30-40 miles per week down to around 10 miles per week.
So, in 2007, at the age of 45, a 74.4 score equates to a 38:50. Seems a reasonable goal.
Personally, I belive I can go even faster than that. When I was 19, I ran a (very poorly paced with PR's at 2 miles and 5k) 10k in 34:27. Today's tables calculate that at 78.9 but using data from today would results in a bias for a performance from 1981. However, a 78.9 would equate to a 36:35. So, even at age 45, I should still be mathematically capable of running my fastest Senior Bowl 10k ever but - with mileage in the range of 12 miles per week - I don't believe that would be realistic. I'm sticking with a target of something in the 38's. . . and a finish before FBM, of course. ;-)
