Tim, I think you are going at this backwards, the thing to do is go with your first instincts and get on the board. There you can push for changes to make the club better. I have been in the club for twenty three years and have rarely seen a time when a new board doesn't make the club a little better. Even if people form or join other running clubs in the area they should realize that,if they care about road running in this area, they should keep the Pacers strong - I think a good person to emulate in this manner is Jon Adams, he is in at least in two other running clubs but does the Pacers immeasurable good.
No board member or group of board members is the Port City Pacers, they serve at the pleasure of the club members and can be voted out of office and their positions taken over by any other group of club members hopefully willing to put the energy into producing races that this board and past boards have.
