I haven't been in here for a while but have been lurking lately so, given this is a subject I think I know something about, I'll jump in. My experience having run the 3rd and 4th legs in the relay is that I was runing about 10 seconds per mile slower on those legs than I was running on flat courses of similar distance. I recall running the Senior Bowl 10k just under 40 min (6:25 pace) three times in recent history while running around 33 min. (6:35 pace) for those relay legs the three times I ran them.
