I agree with Kenny about the track training. I do almost exclusively mile repeats or longer on speed day and alternate with a plyometric-heavy workout (since my races are on trails) every other week (with one timed mile at the start just to track progress) ... I find the tartan track @ USA is very easy on my older legs and, thus, helps prevent injury even during a harder workout.
