I've been troubled over the years with muscle spasms, mostly in my calves and plantars and I can't handle the citric acid that is in most sports drinks . About 6 months ago I ran into a formula for a sports drink on U-tube that has stopped them. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of table salt, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon of potassium chloride (that's the sodium free salt alternative that you can pick up at any grocery) in a quart of water. I drink the whole quart during and after my daily run.
