What could be more rewarding than setting a long term goal, working very hard, and then reaching it? How about watching a friend not only achieve but surpass their goal? Today I witnessed just that.
Chris' 2006 training goal was to log 2500 miles for the year. He calculated the miles he needed each week, worked hard and managed to stay ahead of schedule. So much ahead that he met that goal a while back and was rapidly closing in on 3000 miles. This weekend found him 35 miles short of 3000. A lot of miles to log in only 2 days but oh he was sooo close.
On Sat. he went to MS to run the 1/2 marathon put on by the Gulf Coast Running Club only to find it had been reduced to only a 5k due to weather. Chris ran a warm up, the 5k (set a PR), a long cool down and then ran again Sat evening to end up with 11 miles for the day. He got up this morning and ran another 11, then finished off the afternoon with a 13 mile run.
It was a truly heroic effort and I was fortunate to have witnessed him complete that last 13 miles and cap off a great year of training - one that concluded with his logging 3000 miles for the year!
Congratulations Chris "3G" Lawson!
