Dear Track Enthusiasts,

There will be a meeting on Monday, April 11th @ 6PM at the UMS-Wright Cafeteria regarding bringing the Indoor Track to Mobile. Mr. Henry Papa with the Mobile Sports Commission wants to sort out some details and concerns before moving forward with this project to see how feasible bringing the indoor track to Mobile will be.

Among the major concerns:

1. Where will we store the track and host track meets?

- We would be looking for a facility that could be used from 4-6 weeks. The track is approximately 300 feet long so the facility would need to accomodate that length.

2. Repairs are needed for the track...wooden boards replaced, etc. Where is the money or materials going to come from?

- In the past the current owners have held repair drives where schools throughout the state have donated wood boards, etc.

As many of you know the tremendous burden and expense of traveling 6 hours to Priceville to have an indoor track meet has prevented most of the Mobile area schools from competing indoors. Having this track in Mobile would help our schools be competitive was again with the northern schools that have dominated recently.

Please start brainstorming on these concerns. It will take some effort but the benefits for the city of Mobile and more importantly our athletes will certainly be worth it in the long run.

Hope to have a big turnout on April 11th! Spread the word...
