In my opinion, Apple makes the best hardware, hands down. The finish, quality and ergonomics are top notch. I haven't used anything else that even comes close. After you use the touch wheel, an array of buttons seems downright archaic. You do pay a premium over the other brands, though. I have the 4G mini and I couldn't be happier. I use one of those small silicone cases and the mini is still going strong after several drops.
The nano looks amazing but I haven't got my hands on it yet.
