I think Cathy's advice is good. Don't do too much too soon. If you make it unpleasant you'll give it up. I would build up to a hard walk of 20 minutes first. Then break that walk into 4 five minute sessions. Start out running the first minute of each 5 minute session followed by 4 minutes fast walking. Gradually, over weeks, increase the running of each 5 minute session by a minute and decrease the walking portion by a minute until you're running the entire 20 minutes. Then just keep adding minutes.
