My suggestion would be to stick with the every other day routine and up your mileage or up your pace. On the days that you don't run try doing some type of cross training: biking, swimming (yes, the triathlete in me is coming out), weight lifting, etc. You'll find that cross training will help your strength, speed and stamina and in the end reduce boredom and injuries that are associated with every day running.
